Coming into the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, Americans had their minds set on the U.S mens’ national team’s matchup against England, a soccer powerhouse. Despite a rocky start, the U.S.’ midfielders, Matt Turner, Tim Ream, and Tyler Adams shined, controlling the pace of the game. On the attack, Christian Pulisic was a threat and had countless opportunities, including hitting the top goal post. Defensively, the team was able to keep star English forward Harry Kane from getting many good looks, excluding one open header in the last few minutes. Despite all of this, the end result was a 0-0 draw. Still, there is much optimism for the U.S, as many predicted England to outrightly dominate the U.S. Now, the team must focus on preparing for this upcoming Tuesday, as they take on Iran in a win-or-go home situation. USA is the obvious favorite for this matchup, but to secure a win, they must feed off of their play against England earlier today.
